BBC Says Ready to Provide Russian Telecom Watchdog With Information About Its Broadcasting

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th January, 2019) BBC is ready to provide additional information on its broadcasting when requested to do so by a relevant watchdog, the broadcaster's spokesperson said in a statement obtained by Sputnik after Russia's telecommunications watchdog Roskomnadzor said it would probe the broadcaster for an alleged propagation of terrorist ideology.

Roskomnadzor said earlier in the day that it had sent a request to the British Television company to submit documents verifying the compliance with the media law on the restriction of direct or indirect control of Russian media by foreign organizations, adding that the deadline for submitting this information is January 16.

"As a global broadcaster, BBC fully complies with the legislation and regulations of every country where it operates, including Russia, and we are always ready to provide additional information about our coverage when requested by the appropriate regulator," the spokesperson said.

Roskomnadzor also said earlier on Thursday that the content of the BBC Internet-resources was being checked for compliance with the Russian legislation, adding that a recent inspection had revealed materials propagating ideology of international terrorist groups.
