Trilateral expert consultations before the ministerial meeting on gas between Russia, Ukraine, and the European Commission will be conducted on January 15, Naftogaz Executive Officer Yuriy Vitrenko said on Thursday

KIEV (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th January, 2019) Trilateral expert consultations before the ministerial meeting on gas between Russia, Ukraine, and the European Commission will be conducted on January 15, Naftogaz Executive Officer Yuriy Vitrenko said on Thursday.

"The contract between Naftogaz and Gazprom on gas transit ends this year. Trilateral (the European Union, Ukraine, Russia) 'consultations' on expert level are scheduled for January 15, trilateral "negotiations" on political level - on January 21," Vitrenko said in a statement published on his Facebook page.

Earlier this week, Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of Energy Union Maros Sefcovic confirmed that a trilateral meeting on gas between Russia, Ukraine and the European Union would be held in Brussels on January 21.

Ukraine stopped purchasing gas from Russia in November 2015, and since then did not use the Russian fuel in the country's central heating systems. The current contract for the Russian gas transit through the Ukrainian territory expires in the end of this year.
