Degree or class privilege? LUMS draws criticism for embarrassing ad

Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 9th January, 2019) Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) is known to be one of the best institutions of Pakistan.

However, its degree does not come easy. Earning a degree from LUMS is very expensive and only the privileged are able to afford it.

The fee structure does not really facilitate the poor and a graduate degree from LUMS and hence a good job remains a distant dream for most of the students of the country.

What’s embarrassing is that the same fact was flaunted by LUMS in its recent post.

The post read, “We know our MBA programme is one of the most expensive but our graduates get hired in the top MNCs of the world.”

“There’s a lot of hype over the LUMS MBA being expensive but our alumni get placed at the top Multinational Companies; they secure the best jobs, end up as CEOs and top-level Managers. A LUMS MBA is an investment you won’t regret,” LUMS captioned the post.

The post came into notice at Twitter and people were shocked at this marketing strategy which was rather embarrassing than promotional.

Being an expensive institute is one thing but promoting the class differences is another. This attitude must be called out for and education must be an equal opportunity for all.
