Russia Shares UN Mission's Concern About Gross Rights Violations by Kiev -Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st December, 2018) Moscow shares the concern of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine about continuing gross human rights violations by the Ukrainian authorities, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Friday.

"We share the concern of the Monitoring Mission about the continuing gross and systematic violations of human rights by the government of Ukraine: illegal deprivation of liberty, enforced disappearances, the use of torture, sexual violence, the use of anti-terrorism legislation to crack down on the political opposition and those who disagree in society," it said in a comment on the mission's latest relevant report.

"The mission's experts also point out to the growing number of attacks on freedom of expression, media freedom and physical attacks on journalists," the ministry said.

It said aggressive actions by far right groups in Ukraine, attacks on journalists and civil society activists had reached a critical point.

The ministry also said that Moscow shared the UN mission's viewpoint that adoption by Ukraine of the law on the state language would entail violation of international commitments by Kiev.
