Rescuers Find Bodies of 11 Migrants in Boat Off Spain's Southern Coast -Emergency Services

A boat carrying 33 migrants and the bodies of 11 others was found on Thursday off the Spain's southern coast by a team of Spanish rescuers, a local emergency service told Sputnik.

MADRID (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th December, 2018) A boat carrying 33 migrants and the bodies of 11 others was found on Thursday off the Spain's southern coast by a team of Spanish rescuers, a local emergency service told Sputnik.

The search for the boat, which had left Morocco on Tuesday, went on for two days. It was found 11 nautical miles south of Sabinal Lighthouse, located in the Almeria province of Andalusia.

Among the 33 survivors were 29 men and 4 women, but one of the men died later in a hospital.

Over the past 24 hours, Spanish rescues have found three boats with 132 people on board. The search for three more boats is in progress.

According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), nearly 55,000 migrants have reached Spain by sea so far this year, making the country the main entry point for illegal arrivals to Europe by sea.
