MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th December, 2018) A Russian-African summit is planned to be held in the second half of 2019, Andrei Kemarsky, the director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Department of Africa, told Sputnik.

"In July 2018, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced during the 10th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg that such a meeting on the highest-level will be held in Russia. The leaders of all the African countries have expressed a very big interest ... We're planning to hold this event in the second half of the next year," Kemarsky said.

The senior diplomat specified that a range of events would be held ahead of the summit.

In the first half of 2019, a Russia-African Union parliamentary conference will be held, while in the second half of June 2019 Moscow will host an economic forum on the sidelines of the African Export-Import Bank shareholders meeting.

"All this work on social, parliamentary, and economical directions, will culminate in the summit. A substantial agenda for the summit will be prepared at these events," Kemarsky said.

Back in July, Putin said that the summit could be preceded by meetings of prominent entrepreneurs, experts, and public figures.
