Most UK Leave Voters Dissatisfied With Current Draft Agreement on Brexit - Poll

A total of 60 percent of UK citizens, who voted for the country's withdrawal from the European Union, believe that the current draft agreement on Brexit does not honor the result of the 2016 referendum, a fresh poll showed.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th December, 2018) A total of 60 percent of UK citizens, who voted for the country's withdrawal from the European Union, believe that the current draft agreement on Brexit does not honor the result of the 2016 referendum, a fresh poll showed.

According to the Lord Ashcroft poll, only 14 percent of the Leave voters support the agreement.

A total 27 percent of those UK citizens, who voted for remaining in the European Union, think that the draft deal honors the results of the 2016 voting, while 39 percent more share the opposite point of view.

The poll showed that 36 percent of UK citizens believe that the draft Brexit deal is better for the United Kingdom than leaving the bloc with no deal, whereas the opposite opinion is supported by 30 percent of respondents.

At the same time 19 percent of UK citizens find the draft Brexit deal better than remaining in the bloc under current terms, while 50 percent of respondents would like to stay in the European Union rather than withdraw under the plan envisaged by the draft agreement.

The poll was conducted on December 4-7 among 4,935 adults.

Last month, UK Prime Minister Theresa May defended a draft Brexit deal in the UK Parliament's House of Commons. The agreement faced criticism both from the opposition and from the ruling party, with several members of May's Cabinet having resigned over the disagreement with the deal. While some lawmakers called for a new Brexit referendum, May rejected the idea and called on the parliament to approve the agreement in order to avoid "more division" and "more uncertainty."

The agreement was endorsed by the leaders of 27 EU member states and will be considered by the UK Parliament later on Tuesday.
