WHO Emergency Chief Predicts 6 More Months of Ebola Outbreak

World Health Organization emergency response chief Peter Salama said Tuesday it would take around six months to contain the deadly Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th November, 2018) World Health Organization emergency response chief Peter Salama said Tuesday it would take around six months to contain the deadly Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

"It is very hard to predict timeframes in an outbreak as complicated as this, with so many variables that are outside our control, but certainly we're planning on at least another six months before we can declare this outbreak over," he told reporters in Geneva, as quoted by Deutsche Welle.

The new flare-up of the viral disease began in late July. As of Monday, the Congolese Health Ministry has confirmed 295 cases of infection with Ebola, including 171 fatalities. A total of 209 people have died since the start of what is believed to be the worst Ebola outbreak on record in the republic.
