Sudan Hopes for OPEC's Approval of Country's Plans to Increase Oil Production - Minister

Sudan hopes that the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) will approve its plans to increase production of crude oil, Sudanese Petroleum Minister bdalla told Sputnik on Tuesday, stressing his country's commitment to the OPEC-non-OPEC oil output cut deal

ABU DHABI (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th November, 2018) Sudan hopes that the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) will approve its plans to increase production of crude oil, Sudanese Petroleum Minister bdalla told Sputnik on Tuesday, stressing his country's commitment to the OPEC-non-OPEC oil output cut deal.

"Of course, we are part of that [the OPEC-non-OPEC deal on oil output curtailment] and respect that, and we think it's a good formula. However, when we are ready for the increase in production, we can always enter into a dialogue with them. There can always be a solution for any country in a critical need," Abdalla said on the sidelines of the ADIPEC conference in Abu Dhabi.

The minister added that Sudan had been "in a compromised situation" in terms of the economy for quite some time.

"There could be a solution that can be reached to increase production within the context of the oil balance in terms of the objectives of the OPEC, it can be done," Abdalla stressed.

Sudan wants to increase its crude oil production from the current 75,000 barrels per day (bpd) to 120,000 bpd within a year.

In 2016, OPEC and a number of non-cartel oil producers agreed to cut oil production by 1.8 million barrels per day. The deal came into effect in 2017 and has since been extended until the end of 2018.
