UK Transport Minister Jo Johnson announced Friday he was standing down after calling the government's Brexit plan a "terrible mistake."
MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th November, 2018) UK Transport Minister Jo Johnson announced Friday he was standing down after calling the government's Brexit plan a "terrible mistake."
"With great regret, I'm resigning from the Government," Johnson, who also serves as minister for London, tweeted.
In a statement, Johnson said the proposed Brexit plan would leave the country economically weakened, while a no-deal would "inflict untold damage" on the nation.
"To present the nation with a choice between two deeply unattractive outcomes, vassalage and chaos, is a failure of British statecraft ... My constituents in Orpington deserve better than this," he said.
Johnson said he had asked Prime Minister Theresa May to accept his resignation. As a member of parliament, he promised to vote against the Withdrawal Agreement.
