At least 42 Taliban militants were killed and 40 others injured during recent operations of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) in the eastern part of the country, local media reported on Tuesday citing the military.

The operations took place in the provinces of Nangarhar, Kunar, and Nuristan as well as in the Surobi district of the Kabul province, to the 201 Selab Military Corps said as cited by the TOLONews broadcaster.
The Afghan security forces also seized arms and explosives from the Taliban during the operations.
Afghanistan has long been suffering from an unstable security situation. The government has been fighting the Taliban, which has been waging a war against Kabul for almost two decades, and the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia), which has been operating in Afghanistan since 2015.
