US Army Procures 155mm Precision-Guided Artillery Shells From NATO Distributor

NATO's Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) has begun supplying US forces with 155mm ammunition, with each shell featuring two independently targeted precision munitions, the US Army announced in a press release on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th October, 2018) NATO's Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) has begun supplying US forces with 155mm ammunition, with each shell featuring two independently targeted precision munitions, the US Army announced in a press release on Tuesday.

"The US Army is now joining a number of international counterparts deploying this munition, as interest in BONUS continues to grow worldwide," the release stated.

The US Army explained that BAE Systems' 155mm BONUS ammunition is produced at the BAE Systems facility in Karlskoga, Sweden.

Already qualified by the US Army, the latest version of BONUS defeats heavily armored targets and can be fired from any 155-millimeter artillery system, including M777 lightweight towed howitzers and the M109 self-propelled howitzer family of vehicles, the release said.

Because each BONUS shell carries two smart munitions that employ advanced sensors, the weapon can independently seek out and destroy separate targets within a radius of 32,000 square meters, the release added.
