John Richardson and had the officer's return address, Fox news reported citing US officials.

The report did not identify the officer given that the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The envelopes arrived to the Department of Defense on Monday. The correspondence was tested before being delivered directly to the receivers because the Defense Department received a tip from the White House.

Similar packages were reportedly also sent to the White House and the office of US Senator Ted Cruz.
