Lavrov Warns Against 'Rushing Things' in Appointing Syria Constitutional Committee
UNITED NATIONS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th September, 2018) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Friday warned against making rush decisions in appointing members to a Syrian committee that will draw up a new constitution.
"It is important not to rush things. Civil society figures should be appointed to the Constitutional Committee with great care.
These members should be approved by both the government and the opposition," he told reporters in New York.
"The Constitutional Committee is being formed, with [Syrian] President Bashar Assad being the first to send his delegates, while the opposition took several months to draw up its lists. Talks are underway to add civil society members to the list of Constitutional Committee members," he added.
