MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th September, 2018) The situation around the Telegram messenger was not discussed at the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the head of Russia's communications regulator Roskomnadzor, Alexander Zharov, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday.

"No, this topic was not touched upon," Peskov said, asked whether this issue was discussed at Monday meeting.

Since mid-April, the watchdog has been blocking the messenger in Russia in accordance with the decision of a Moscow court over Telegram's refusal to give encryption keys to the Russian security services amid concerns that the messenger could be used by terrorists or criminals.

The messenger's team explained that it was technically impossible to give the keys, but Zharov said this was not exactly true.
