Russia's Bogdanov, Syria Opposition's Qadri Jamil Discuss Constitutional Committee -Moscow

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th September, 2018) Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and head of Syrian opposition's Moscow platform Qadri Jamil discussed on Monday the conflict settlement and preparations for the launch of a constitutional committee, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"The issue of political settlement in Syria based on the UNSC Resolution 2254 was extensively discussed during the talks. Special attention was paid to the questions of the preparation for the establishment and launch of the constitutional committee as well as the implementation of the Russian initiative on the return of Syrian refugees and internally displaced persons," the statement read.

The decision to set up the body was made at the Syrian National Dialogue Congress that was held in the Russian resort city of Sochi in January.

According to UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, the committee, aimed at facilitating the process to end the conflict, will comprise three groups - the Syrian government, opposition delegation as well as a group made up of Syrian experts, civil society, tribal leaders, women and independents.
