Russia, Turkey, Iran to Consider Convening Conference on Syrian Refugees - Declaration

The Russian, Turkish and Iranian leaders have agreed to consider the possibility of convening an international conference on Syrian refugees and internally displaced persons, a joint declaration, adopted Friday after the trilateral summit in Tehran, said.

"[The presidents] have stressed the need to create conditions for the safe and voluntary return of refugees and internally displaced persons to their homes in Syria. To this end, they have highlighted the need for coordination between all relevant parties, including the Office of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and other specialized international agencies.

They have agreed to consider the idea of convening an international conference on Syrian refugees and internally displaced persons," the document read.

The declaration added that the three leaders had also agreed to continue cooperation until the complete defeat of the Islamic State (IS) and Nusra Front terrorists groups (both banned in Russia).

"The Presidents have reaffirmed their firm commitment to continue to work together to completely eliminate Daesh/IS, Nusra and all other individuals, groups and organizations associated with Al-Qaeda or Daesh/IS, recognized as terrorist groups by the UNSC," the document read.
