Elections of LPR New Head, Parliament Set for November 11 - People's Council

The parliament of the self-proclaimed people's republic of Luhansk (LPR), the People's Council, on Friday scheduled the presidential and parliamentary elections for November 11.

LUHANSK (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th September, 2018) The parliament of the self-proclaimed people's republic of Luhansk (LPR), the People's Council, on Friday scheduled the presidential and parliamentary elections for November 11.

"The People's Council scheduled the election of the Luhansk People's Republic's head and the election of the Luhansk People's Republic People's Council lawmakers on Sunday, November 11, 2018," the parliament's decision, published online, said.

The LPR and the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), located in Ukraine's eastern Donbas region, proclaimed their independence from Kiev in 2014, refusing to recognize the new central government. The secession prompted Kiev to begin a military operation in the area. The conflict between the Donbas republics and the Ukrainian central authorities has claimed lives of over 10,000 people and is still ongoing.
