West's Provocations Against Syria to Significantly Damage Syrian Settlement - Moscow

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th August, 2018) The provocation and military aggression of Western countries against Syria will significantly undermine the settlement of the Syrian conflict, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.

According to Zakharova, the West is following the scenario similar to the one previously used ahead of Western countries' attacks on Syria. The statements that the Syrian government could allegedly use chemical weapons will be followed by a provocation which could be either a real chemical weapons attack or a staged one, she specified.

"The final stage is missile strikes on Syrian troops' positions and other facilities .

.. It would not only be a devastating blow to the Syrian settlement but also to the global security," Zakharova said.

Zakharova stressed that the consequences of Western provocations related to the chemical weapons use in Syria were "unpredictable."

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov has said earlier citing independent sources that militants of Tahrir al-Sham terrorist group (banned in Russia) were preparing a provocation to later accuse Damascus of chemical weapons use in Idlib.
