Russia, Iraq Discuss Bilateral Cooperation in Oil Industry - Energy Ministry

Russian Deputy Minister of Energy Pavel Sorokin has held meetings in Iraq with the country's Oil Minister Jabar Luaibi and Kareem Hattab, deputy oil minister for upstream operation, during which they discussed bilateral cooperation in the oil industry and new possible joint projects, the Russian Energy Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th August, 2018) Russian Deputy Minister of Energy Pavel Sorokin has held meetings in Iraq with the country's Oil Minister Jabar Luaibi and Kareem Hattab, deputy oil minister for upstream operation, during which they discussed bilateral cooperation in the oil industry and new possible joint projects, the Russian Energy Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

"In the course of the talks, the issues of Russian-Iraqi oil-related cooperation were discussed, namely, the progress of Badra oil field project, as well as the possibility of Russian companies' engagement in other oil and gas projects on Iraqi territory," the statement read.

Major Russian companies are already engaged in Iraqi-based projects, with Gazprom Neft energy company developing the Badra oil field in eastern Iraq, along with two other projects, and LUKoil oil and gas company extracting oil at the West Qurna-2 oil field in southern Iraq and conducting geological exploration at Block 10, also located in the southern part of the country.

In February 2017, the government of Iraq's autonomous region of Kurdistan and Russia's Rosneft agreed on a contract providing for oil trade between the two sides from 2017 to 2019.
