MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th August, 2018) The Russian Economic Development Ministry has devised a spatial planning strategy that would see Russia be divided into 14 macroregions with the aim of boosting cooperation between these areas, the ministry's press service told Sputnik on Monday.

"Macroregions are not administrative and territorial units ...

They have been formed after taking into account existing socioeconomic links, including settlement patterns and transport links [with the aim] to intensify interregional cooperation on infrastructure, investments and social policies," the press service said.

According to the press service, the ministry plans to submit its spatial planning strategy to the government in September.

The strategy is expected to be approved in November, the press service added.
