Pakistani Newly-Elected Prime Minister to Take Oath, Assume Office on Saturday

Pakistani newly-elected Prime Minister Imran Khan, the leader of centrist Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, will take oath and assume office on Saturday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th August, 2018) Pakistani newly-elected Prime Minister Imran Khan, the leader of centrist Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, will take oath and assume office on Saturday.

The swearing-in ceremony will be held at the Presidents House in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad.

The election was held on Friday by the lawmakers from Pakistan's lower house (National Assembly).

The 65-year-old Khan secured 176 votes, while his main rival - the head of the former ruling party Pakistan Muslim League (N) Shahbaz Sharif - was supported by 96 lawmakers.

Following his party's victory in the July's election to the National Assembly, Khan, who founded the PTI in 1996, pledged that he would tackle unemployment, poverty and corruption in the country, introduce police reforms, and focus on the health and educational issues after coming to power.
