Lithuania to Have Baltics' First NATO-Approved Air Training Grounds in Fall - Ministry

Lithuania is expecting to complete works on modernization and certification by the NATO standards of the Baltics' first aeronautical training grounds in Kazlu Ruda in fall of 2018, the Lithuanian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

VILNIUS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th August, 2018) Lithuania is expecting to complete works on modernization and certification by the NATO standards of the Baltics' first aeronautical training grounds in Kazlu Ruda in fall of 2018, the Lithuanian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

"The works on equipping and certifying in accordance with the NATO standards of aeronautical firing ranges, where jets will fire at ground targets and commanders will manage the air strikes, are being competed in Kazlu Ruda of Marijampole district ... Completion of the process of equipping and certifying the training grounds is planned for fall this year," the ministry's press service said.

According to the ministry, the modernization works in the Kazlu Ruda training grounds, which started in 2017, are partly funded by the United States and conducted in cooperation with the Pensylvania National Guard.

Kazlu Ruda is located some 37 miles from the Russian border.

Lithuania started NATO-sponsored expanding of its training grounds in 2014. The country's main training grounds in Gaiziunai and Pabrade will be enlarged and modernized by 2022.
