Ankara Hopes Turkish Companies to Help Rebuild Iraq - Foreign Minister

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu expressed hope on Monday that national companies would take part in the reconstruction of Iraq to boost stability in the region.

ANKARA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th August, 2018) Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu expressed hope on Monday that national companies would take part in the reconstruction of Iraq to boost stability in the region.

"Reconstruction of Iraq is very important. At the international donors conference in Kuwait, we were the country which provided the biggest support for Iraq. And, hopefully, Turkish companies will play a role in the reconstruction and rebuilding of Iraq � It is reality that the reconstruction in Iraq will provide a significant step for stability in the region," Cavusoglu said at the 10th Ambassadors Conference in Ankara.

In December 2017, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi announced a victory over the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia) after over three year of fighting, and said that local security and law enforcement services would continue eliminating IS sleeper cells.

On February 14, Cavusoglu announced that Turkey would allocate $5 billion in loans toward Iraq's post-war economic recovery.
