Turkey Spent $32Bln on Syrian Refugees Since Conflict Beginning - Foreign Minister

ANKARA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th August, 2018) Turkey has spent $32 billion to support refugees fleeing civil war in Syria since 2011, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Monday.

"We are welcoming our Syrian brothers and sisters in our country. So far we have spent $32 billion ... We never refrained from helping them," Cavusoglu said at the 10th Ambassadors Conference in Ankara.

He noted that given the common border with Syria, Turkey was "among the countries paying the biggest bill" due to spill-overs of the conflict from the neighboring state.

"We have worked with all our mighty to stop the bloodshed in Syria and to find a political solution to this conflict," the minister stressed.

. According to the advocacy group Human Rights Watch (HRW), Turkey accepted nearly 3.6 million Syrians between the beginning of 2011 and end of May 2018, making it the world's largest host country for refugees.
