DEWA announces gold sponsorship of ERC's Ramadan campaign

DUBAI, (Pakistan Point News - 31st May, 2018) The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA, has announced its gold sponsorship of the Emirates Red Crescent’s, ERC’s, Ramadan campaign, which will benefit over 1,352,000 people in the UAE and over 70 countries worldwide.

The programme includes Ramadan iftar, Zakat Al Fitr, Eid clothes, Ramadan Mir projects, and other charitable projects. This year's campaign is more comprehensive and coincides with the expansion of the programmes and charitable projects of the ERC. DEWA’s sponsorship of the campaign is in line with its Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, programme and its social and humanitarian efforts.

"We are pleased to sponsor the Ramadan campaign launched by the ERC, while we are in the Year of Zayed. This year, we celebrate the centennial of the birth of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, whose helping hand supported the needy all over the world. Our wise leadership follows in his footsteps. The UAE is today the global capital of humanitarian action. In 2017, the UAE was ranked the world’s top development assistance donor, according to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development," said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA.

"DEWA is committed to its responsibility to society based on a clear strategy and several humanitarian and charity initiatives in cooperation with a number of public and private organisations. This is part of a system to serve society and strengthen cohesion among all its members. DEWA’s CSR initiatives are an integral part of its strategic plan and efforts to serve the community. We appreciate the role played by the ERC locally and globally to consolidate the position of the UAE as the capital of good and giving, based on the teachings of islam and Arab traditions and the principles instilled in us by our founding fathers," added Al Tayer.

DEWA’s CSR efforts have contributed to an increase in society’s happiness, from 82 percent in 2013 to 92 percent in 2017. DEWA also received many local and international awards for CSR. DEWA received the Dubai Giving and the People-of-Determination-Friendly Government Entity at the 21st Dubai Government Excellence Programme. DEWA also received the MVO8000 in CSR in 2015, becoming the first government organisation in Dubai to receive this global recognition. It also won three awards at the International Corporate Social Responsibility Excellence Awards in 2017.
