BEIJING, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Jul, 2017 ) : South Korea's Yonhap News Agency and China's Xinhua News Agency on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to hold a series of joint photo exhibitions to promote upcoming Olympics in Northeast Asia.
The MOU signing ceremony, attended by Yonhap CEO and President Park No-hwang and Cai Mingzhao, Xinhua's president, was held at Xinhua's headquarters in Beijing. Japan's Kyodo News is also part of the three-nation photo exhibitions first proposed by Yonhap.
South Korea is home to the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games. Japan will host the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and China will stage the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing. Yonhap will host the first of the exhibitions at the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History in Seoul from Sept.
5 to Nov. 30. The second round of exhibitions is planned to be held in Tokyo in 2019 with the third edition arranged by Xinhua in 2021.
"The event by Northeast Asia's three representative news agencies will not only serve as a foundation for the successful hosting of the 2018, 2020 and 2022 Olympics, but is expected to contribute to substantial exchanges and strengthening of cooperation between the three countries' media industries," said Park.
Cai said he believed "the companies can better develop their already well- established relationship through this opportunity," underscoring his support for the joint exhibitions. Park also proposed that Xinhua become part of Yonhap's PyeongChang News Service Network (PNN), a content-sharing platform developed by Yonhap to share news on the 2018 Winter Games.
More than 40 international news outlets have so far agreed to join the platform. PNN will allow news outlets around the world to access and share content on the Olympics in real time and for free. The system will be completed within this year.
