Car torched in hate crime against Arabs in Israel

Two cars were torched and a nationalist graffiti was spray-painted in an Arab village in Israel on Wednesday, amidst a string of hate crimes against Palestinians in the West Bank and Israel.

JERUSALEM, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Apr, 2018 ) ::Two cars were torched and a nationalist graffiti was spray-painted in an Arab village in Israel on Wednesday, amidst a string of hate crimes against Palestinians in the West Bank and Israel.

The so-called "price tag" attack took place in Iksal, southeast of Nazareth, the capital and largest city of Israel's Northern District. A police statement said firefighters were called to put off the fire after two cars were burnt down.

A slogan read "Jews let's win" was spray-painted on a wall. The police said they have launched an investigation. It was the third hate attack in northern Israel over the past year after similar attacks took place in Yafia and Na'ura.

Also in the region, ultra-nationalist Israelis torched the Church of Multiplication of the Loaves and Fish near the Sea of Galilee in 2015. Two years later, an Israeli court convicted an Israeli settler in vandalizing the iconic Catholic church.

He was sentenced to four years in prison.

On Monday, two hate attacks took place in the town of Rammun, east of Ramallah city, and in the village of Beit Iksa, northwest of Jerusalem. In both cases, cars were vandalized and hate slogans were spray-painted.

Israeli-perpetrated hate crime attacks have been on the rise over the past months, according to figures released Sunday by the Shin Bet security service. Since the first four months of 2018, the Shin Bet documented 13 such attacks, after 2017 saw eight attacks throughout the entire year.

Far-right Israelis have carried out thousands of the so-called "price tag" attacks over the past years. The attacks include violence against Palestinians in the West Bank and Israel and vandalism of mosques, churches, cemeteries, and personal property.

Most of the incidents remain unsolved as the law enforcement authorities usually fail to arrest and charge any suspects. Israel occupied the West Bank in the 1967 Mideast war and had controlled it ever since, in a move denounced by the international community.
