Visiting President of the European Parliament (EP) Antonio Tajani Tuesday said Bulgaria could contribute to the European integration of the Balkan countries
SOFIA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Nov, 2017 ) :Visiting President of the European Parliament (EP) Antonio Tajani Tuesday said Bulgaria could contribute to the European integration of the Balkan countries.
The situation in the Balkans is a priority for the European Union (EU) and for the EP, Tajani said at a joint press conference after bilateral talks with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov.
"We are committed to strengthening the ties and the prospect of accession of some countries," said Tajani, who came to Sofia to discuss Bulgaria's tasks and responsibilities during its upcoming presidency of the Council of the EU.
Bulgaria's EU presidency could be very useful in achieving these serious goals, Tajani said. "Bulgaria wants to give a perspective to the peoples in this region," Borissov said in turn. Borissov said he was optimistic that, with the support of the EP, Bulgaria's presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2018 could be very helpful.
The rare chance that Austria, Romania and Croatia would chair the Council of the EU immediately after Bulgaria, has given tremendous opportunity to make real progress on the accession of the Western Balkans to the EU in the next two years, Borissov added.
