Ten Fixed, Mobile Air Quality Monitoring Stations Working To Ensure Environmental Check

Ministry of Climate Change has established seven fixed and three Mobile Ambient Air Quality Stations to ensure effective environment monitoring in the country
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Feb, 2018 ) :Ministry of Climate Change has established seven fixed and three Mobile Ambient Air Quality Stations to ensure effective environment monitoring in the country.
These stations have been established under Environmental Monitoring System (EMS) project launched in cooperation with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). One fixed station was established in Islamabad, Peshawar and Quetta and two each in Lahore and Karachi.
Official sources on Tuesday said in addition, three mobile stations, one each in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi were also established. All these stations are equipped with state-of-the-art technology to monitor ambient air round-the-clock.
The sources said all provinces have made their PC-I and started project on provincial level with required staff. After closing of this project at federal level, PC-IV was submitted to Planning and Development Division and Establishment Division for conversion of project posts from development to non-development side.
Recently, Pak-EPA has initiated an air quality survey in designated industrial areas of Islamabad - I-9, I-10 and Kahuta Industrial Triangle since February 1, 2018. The sources said Pak-EPA has been conducting survey or sampling on need basis to assess air quality in ambient air particularly during winter.
Moreover, the sources said Environmental Monitoring System in Pakistan project established foundation for building capacity of monitoring laboratories of Pak-EPA and Provincial EPAs to enhance regulatory compliance, and environmental management and protection.
The project worked as a network for monitoring of continuous air monitoring in Federal and Provincial capitals. The Federal and Provincial EPAs were upgraded, and a new laboratory was established at Islamabad.
