A two-day workshop on Tackling Cybercrime in Telecommunication Sector in Pakistan concluded here on Friday amid emphasized on international collaborations to check cybercrimes.

Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunications, Ms. Anusha Rahman inaugurated the workshop, organized by Commonwealth Telecommunication Organization. Senior delegates from CTO and Commonwealth Secretariat arrived in Islamabad to conduct this workshop.
The CTO is mandated to assist 53 countries of the Commonwealth to leverage all forms of ICTs for socio-economic development. This two-day workshop was part of capacity building activities for its member countries and is focusing on subjects including, global cybercrime landscape, legal responses to cybercrime, data protection etc.
The inaugural session was also attended by Thomas Drew, High Commissioner of United Kingdom to Pakistan. Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunications, Ms. Anusha Rahman Khan while addressing the workshop said Pakistan promulgated Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act in 2016 which had made many online crimes cognizable.
Anusha Rahman stressed that users of cyberspace should have same rights and protection as were available offline. The Minister was of view that development activities in ICTs should continue to grow.
She also highlighted significant projects which ministry had undertaken to benefit society using ICTs particularly infrastructure development in Balochistan and FATA, social uplift of girls through "ICT for Girls" in which young girls of 226 schools of Islamabad were being trained on coding and cloud computing programmes.
Thomas Drew emphasized the need of collaborations in tackling cybercrimes. Director Operations, CTO thanked the Ministry for its facilitation and highlighted importance of tackling cybercrime. He said as we were moving in e-commerce and IoTs era, we should be focused on securing our privacy and be well aware of potential risks in cyberspace.
