3G/4G Users Reach 49.46 Million in Pakistan

The number of 3G and 4G users in Pakistan reached 49.46 million by the end of January 2018, states Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Mar, 2018 ) :The number of 3g and 4g users in Pakistan reached 49.46 million by the end of January 2018, states Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

Number of mobile phone users in Pakistan reached 145.99 million by the end of January 2018, compared to 144.52 million by December 2017, registering an increase of 1.47 million users during the period under review.

Jazz's total count for 3G users stood at 14.546 million by January 2018, compared to 14.299 million by December 2017, registering an increase of 0.247 million. Jazz's 4G user numbers jumped from 1,934,752 by the end of December 2017 to 2,238,018 by January 2018.

Zong's 3G subscribers increased to 9.089 million by the end of January 2018, compared to 9.044 million by the end of December 2017, while the number of 4G users jumped from 4,961,350 by December to 5,072,443 by January.

The number of 3G users on Telenor's network increased from 10.63 million by December 2017 to 10.756 million by January 2018. Like others, the number of 4G users increased from 1,594,897 by December 2017 to 1,883,616 by January 2018.

Ufone added 0.149 million 3G users on its network during the month of January as the total reached to 5.869 million by end of January 2018 against 5.720 million by December 2017. Teledensity for cellular mobile users reached 73.44 percent and broadband subscribers reached 51,767,141 by January 2018 compared to 50,512,909 by December 2017.

An official of IT Ministry said that once the infrastructure will be in place to achieve 100 percent 3G coverage, Pakistan will be ready to focus on the demand side of the technology; such as providing training for the masses who want to attain the best of digital skills.

To promote digital trends, tomorrow Ignite is going to Inaugurate Digiskill programme to provide digital skill training to over 1 million Pakistani youth. He said telecommunication sector in the country has grown at a rapid pace and undergone an impressive transformation over the last four years.

Introduction of Mobile Broadband Services (3G / 4G/LTE) in Pakistan is one of the biggest achievements of information Technology and Telecommunication Ministry. In 2014 Award of Four 3G Licenses awarded to Jazz (mobilink), Telenor, Ufone, and zong and One 4G Licenses to Zong, in 2016- Award of 4G License awarded to Telenor and in 2017 Award of 4G License to Jazz.

He said,Telecom Policy 2015 has been Review and Integration of multiple telecom sector policies into one National Telecom Policy and Abolishment of ICH regime - Measures to curb Grey Traffic. Another reason of growth of telecom sector is Incentive Package that has been given to Local Manufacturing of Smart Phones He said, Telecom sector has Secured 100 MHz for mobile broadband and 300 MHz for fixed satellite service at the World Radio communication Conference 2015for the country.

Telecenter Program - A community resource center that provides broadband internet and e-services access to citizens in underserved areas. Contract for establishment of 10 initial Telecenters has been signed with M/s Pakistan Mobile Communication Ltd. (Jazz).
