LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th july, 2016) : The Punjab Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW) has helped a rape victim get protection and speed up the prosecution process. The PCSW initiated the matter with the authorities concerned, on the complaint of Aasia's family, a spokesperson of PCSW told APP here on Friday.
Aasia, whose family had taken a house on "Girvi" in Lahore city, was raped by her landlord on April 2, 2016, while she was alone at home. An FIR was registered under Section 376/PPC on the same day at Police Station Data Darbar.
However, the accused had continuously been harassing the victim and her family. On PCSW intervention, the police provided security to the victim and her family, and a restraining order against the accused was obtained.
The commission also referred the case to a legal counsel on pro bono basis. The delay in submission of the DNA report was also remedied with the commission's intervention. The case is now being pursued before the sessions court, the spokesperson said.
