ISLAMABAD,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th july,2016) : Indian police arrested the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Syed Ali Gilani, in Srinagar on Friday (today). The police took Syed Ali Gilani into custody as he defied his house arrest, stepped out of his residence and tried to march towards the Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.
He was lodged at Humhama Police Station in Srinagar, KMS reported. Call for the march has been given by Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik as part of the protest programme against the killing spree unleashed by Indian forces during the ongoing Kashmir Intifada.
The Intifada was triggered by extra-judicial murder of the top commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, Burhan Wani, by Indian troops on July 8. 56 people have been killed so far in the firing of bullets, pallets, and teargas shells on peaceful protesters by Indian troops and police personnel. Syed Ali Gilani talking to media persons before his arrest impressed upon the people to exhibit steadfastness to carry forward the ongoing movement.
"I appeal and stress upon people to remain persistent and steadfast so that the current movement can be taken forward successfully," he said, adding "we will not budge even an inch this time as we have already sacrificed nearly sixty dear ones so it is high time for India to accept Kashmir as a dispute and start the process of its resolution." Meanwhile, the occupation authorities continue to impose strict curfew and other restrictions in the Kashmir Valley on the 21st day, today, to stop people from conducting the march.
The puppet authorities have also sealed the Jamia Masjid and Khanqah-e-Mualla in Srinagar to prevent holding of Juma prayers. Almost all other Hurriyet leaders have been kept under house arrest or in police custody to prevent them from leading the march.
