UVAS, DAMEN Sign MoU To Establish Pasture At Ravi Campus

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th july, 2016) : The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) and Development Action for Mobilisation and Emancipation (DAMEN), Lahore, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to run a pilot project for development of a pasture for grazing of livestock. Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha and DAMEN Chief Executive Officer Rao Amjad Ali signed the MoU at a ceremony, held at City Campus, UVAS, Lahore, on Thursday.
Dean Faculty of Life Sciences, business Management Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad, Advisor Strategic & Finance, DAMEN, Ahsan Rasheed, Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani, Dr Imtiaz Rabbani and faculty members were also present. Under the MoU, five acres of land within the farming grounds of the UVAS Ravi Campus at Pattoki will be set aside for development as a pasture for grazing of sheep and other livestock.
About 50 sheep will be selected at the beginning of the pilot project to be grazed on the pasture. The pasture will also be used for imparting training to UVAS students and faculty members, and smallholder farmers of limited education and professional land managers.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof Talat Naseer said that there was much need to support development of smallholder farmers in rural areas and the efforts for poverty alleviation in Pakistan through development of livestock sector.
