Italian Envoy Calls On Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th july, 2016) : Italian Ambassador Stefano Pontecorvo called on Federal Minister for Defence, Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif here on Thursday. During the meeting, areas of mutual interest, bilateral relations and investment opportunities in the power and defence sectors came under discussion, according to a press release. The ambassador commended the cordial relations the two countries are enjoying at different levels. He said Pakistan has several lucrative sectors where Italy would like to invest. The minister said Pakistan is looking for strengthening relations with every country and it has a lot of potential in the field of energy, defence, trade and scientific and technological development which needs to be exploited.
Khawaja Asif said that the energy sector is being made more attractive for the investors so that foreign investment in the coal and hydel power generation could further increase to meet the country's future requirements.
"Investment in micro-hydel and Run of the River projects as well as in transmission and distribution in Pakistan will not only benefit Pakistan but also profitable for Italy," the minister added. The ambassador assured full support of the Government of Italy in the fulfilling Pakistan's development agenda particularly in the power sector.
He said that Italian investors have keen interest for making more investment in diverse sectors of Pakistan.
