Magnitude 8 quake strikes off Papua New Guinea

SYDNEY, (Pakistan Point News – 23rd Jan, 2017) : Magnitude 8 earthquake has struck west of Papua New Guinea. The quake was 153 kilometers deep and centered 40 kilometers west of the town, according to the US Geological Survey. Tsunami waves are possible and nearby countries have been warned. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has advised that tsunami waves of up to a meter above the tide level are possible for some coasts of Papua New Guinea and nearby Solomon Islands. Apparently no financial loss or causality has been reported.
