MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Jan, 2017 ) : The agriculture department has decided to form a working group to control pest attack on crops through biological control techniques and to lessen application of pesticides.
The working group would comprise representatives from the Federal government, Punjab, experts from Agriculture University Faisalabad, scientists, researchers, and others, says a release issued by agriculture spokesman here Friday.
The working group would prepare recommendations to discourage application of pesticides on crops to control pests and the decision was a part of initiatives being taken by the government to increase crop production while ensuring quality.
Quoting experts, the spokesman said it was the appropriate time to apply Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques. He said eleven laboratories were engaged in increasing the number of crop-friendly pests and added that these pests would have resistance, to some extent, against the impact of pesticides.
The initiative would save the environment from pollution caused by pesticides and to save food crops from negative impact of pesticides. It may be noted that the agriculture department has asked farmers not to embark on sowing of cotton before April 15 to avoid pest attack, the release concluded.
