NMC To Be Elevated As Varsity Soon

MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Jan, 2017 ) : The government has decided to elevate the Nishtar and Rawalpindi Medical Colleges as varsities within upcoming 10 months. Additional Principal Medical Officer (APMO) NMC Dr Zaheer Khan told APP on Thursday that the decision had been made in a meeting at Islamabad attended by Principal Nishtar Medical College (NMC) Dr Kamran Salick among others recently.
He said an administrative block would be set up initially within the existing building of the college. He added that an area of 10 to 15 acres was required for establishing a medical university.
Underscoring the importance of the varsity, the APMO said private medical colleges of the surrounding area would be affiliated with the varsity.
Focal person for NMU Dr Ahmad Masood Ejaz said the proposal was made over 10 years back, adding that the varsity would be set up in the building of the college and land would be purchased later on.
Regarding the staff, he said the college faculty would teach at the varsity too in the beginning. Dr Ejaz who is also Head of Oncology department of Nishtar said if the district jail was shifted from the vicinity of college, a new allied hospital would also be erected as the jail land belonged to Nishtar. A new hospital was dire need of Multan, he added.
