KARACHI, (Pakistan Point News - APP - 19th Jan, 2017 ) : People using the National Highway from Airport to Pakistan Steel Maur (turn) facing serious traffic problems for last couple of years have strongly demanded the earliest possible repair or upgradation of the road; which was announced by Sindh government around one year back. The frequent hours-long traffic jams besides dead slow traffic movement, and severe wear and tear of vehicles had become a routine.
Big population did suffer every day. The industrialists travelling from the main city areas to and from Landhi and Port Qasim industrial estates had been very vocal on the issue at different provincial and Federal government platforms. On the announcement in this regard and starting of work on the highway from Airport-- its upgradation and expansion, construction of covered drainage in between two sides of the road- the commuters were very happy that their grievances would soon be over, a group of people talking to APP said.
But, they regretted, pace of work was very slow. Even recent rain adds to their difficulties. They feared that the delay/slow pace of work would push them in a great trouble if heavy rains occur any time. When the area people raised the issue with Abdul Hakim Baloch , member of National Assembly elected from Malir district on PPP ticket through by-election in the last week of November 2017, Baloch said the delay was mainly because of provision of funds as the section of National Highway up to Pakistan Steel Town fell within limits of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation. However, he added, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah had assured him that road work would be timely completed.
