LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Jan, 2017 ) : The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday dismissed a petition filed by a mother seeking permission for gender-change surgery of her 24 years old daughter.
The court held that the girl was an adult and she could approach herself for the purpose. The mother could not file plea for the surgery of her adult daughter, it added. LHC Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah heard the petition filed by the mother for her daughter's surgery.
During the hearing, the petitioner's counsel while arguing before the court submitted that the girl started feeling physical changes in her body at the age of 14. He said the girl started consulting gynaecologists after she felt frequent pains and feel of `gender disorder' unbearable.
The lawyer said a doctor at the Fatima Memorial Hospital advised her an ultrasound scan and after going through the report he suggested her to have the surgery. But,the surgeons refused to carry out the surgery due to possibility of a legal action and advised her to get permission for the surgery from a court of law, he added.
However, a law officer opposed the plea and submitted that the court did not have the jurisdiction to hear the matter. He maintained that the girl was adult and no other person could file the petition for the purpose. The court agreed with the arguments of the law officer and dismissed the petition.
