Liver transplant facility again being started at PIMS: Senate told

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th july, 2016) : State Minister for Capital Administration and Development Division Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhary Tuesday apprised the Senate that liver transplant facility was again being started at Pakistan Institute of Medical Science (PIMS) on the directive of the Prime Minister. Responding to various supplementary questions during Question Hour, the minister said that a centre for liver transplant was set-up in November, 2010 at PIMS but later it was closed.

He said new OPD and trauma centre were being set up in PIMS to facilitate the patients. He said 20 kanal of land has already been acquired from Capital Development Authority for constructing 600 bed new block at Federal Government Poly Clinic Hospital. The minister said state of art facilities for fatal diseases including liver, cardiac, AIDs/HIVs and other viral diseases were available at PIMS. To a question, the minister said all five chillers of air-conditioning plant were completely out of order, the inside bodies of the chiller were damaged and the copper tube in absorber, condenser and generator were totally damaged, leaked and blocked due to complete use-full life including other related parts like plates, walls etc. He said PC-1 worth Rs.645 million was submitted to the Planning Commission for replacing the plant. Dr Fazal said Bahrain government has also offer to set up a hospital in Islamabad.

However, it would be built by ministries of Interior and Planning Commission, he added. To another question, the minister told the recruitment against the 154 vacant posts of BPS-01 to BPS-05 in PIMS was under process.

He said advertisement to fill the vacancies has already been given and soon suitable candidates would be appointed through transparent process. Previously the recruitment of the posts BPS-16 and above was in the purview of the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) but after promulgation of SZABMU ordinance, the same were not being accepted by the commission. He said as per recruitment policy vacant posts of BPS-06 and above would be filled up after Screening Test carried out by the registered Testing Agency which would be hired by CA&DD.

He also assured the quota reserved for Balochistan, Khyber Pakhutankhwa, FATA and Gilgit-Baltistan would be implemented in accordance with the provincial / regional quota as per rules Meanwhile, Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani annoyed over not answering a question asked by Senator Tanvir Khan by CDA about details of auctioned plots during last 20 years. He observed that CDA was delaying deliberately to provide details of the question and referred the matter to the concerned committee and sought reply within a week.
