Independence Day Athletics

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th july, 2016) : Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) will organise athletic events across the country during the month of August to celebrate the independence day in a befitting manner. "We will hold marathon and road races at district , provincial and club level throughout the country next month to engage the youth in athletic events", Secretary AFP Muhammad Zafar told APP here on Tuesday. He said the marathon Race is being organized by the sports Department of Balochistan in collaboration with Pakistan Army and Balochistan Athletics Association on August 6. The Race will start from Airport Chowk ending at Football Ground, Ayub Stadium. The winner will receive Rs 300,000 and runners up pocketing Rs 200,000.

The third position holder will get Rs 100,000 and from fourth to 10th position, each will be awarded Rs 25,000. "We are confident with such attractive cash prizes at stake, a keen competition will be seen among the participants of the marathon and we expect a big gathering of runners to feature in this grand event", he asserted. Secretary AFP said various committees are being formed to hold the marathon in a befitting manner. He said besides road races will also be organised throughout the country which will also generate public interest of participation. Zafar was of the view that with the holding of these event new athletic talent will be spotted which will be groomed for future athletic events.
