Transparency International claims increase in corruption in Pakistan

The International body says corruption overall increased in different countries across the world and suggested measures how to control it.

ISLAMABAD: (Urdu Point/Pakistan Point News-January 23rd, 2020) Corruption increased in Pakistan as its score at Perception Index touched 32 points in 2019 from 33 points of 2018, Transparency International claimed here on Thursday.

Transparency International, however, said that National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) performance remained better under NAB Chairman Justice (retied) Javed Iqbal as maximum money was recovered from the corrupts.

Majority of the countries, according to the organization, could not minimize corruption during the last year. “Pakistan’s rank is 120 out of 180,” said Transparency International.

It also gave its recommendations about minimizing corruption including separation between check and balance and powers, protection to civil society workers and journalists and lobbies keeping an eye on corruption should be regulated. “India is at 41 points in Perception Index,” said the organization.

The organization said G-7 states and other developed countries have also been facing the menace of corruption. “Corruption is a global issue, and overall, it increased in different countries of the world last year,” it added.
