MEXICO CITY (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd January, 2020) Venezuela is once again facing massive power outages and internet blackouts in the northern and western parts of the country, the NetBlocks monitoring agency reported.

"Confirmed: A major power outage has knocked out internet connectivity in several states of #Venezuela as of 8:00 p.m. local time [00:00 GMT]; high impact observed in #Tachira #Mérida #Zulia #Maracaibo #Trujillo; incident ongoing," the agency wrote on its Twitter page.

Venezuela regularly suffers from large-scale blackouts, the latest of which happened on Saturday and affected 16 out of the country's 23 states.

After the summer power outages in Caracas, Communications Minister Jorge Rodriguez said that they had been caused by an "electromagnetic attack" targeting the country's main hydroelectric system.
