China Cancels All Sports Events Until April Over Coronavirus Fears - Automobile Federation

(Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd January, 2020) China's General Administration of Sport has suspended all sports events in the country until April in light of the outbreak of a new coronavirus, the national Federation of automobile and Motorcycle Sports said on Thursday.

"As part of efforts to prevent and control the outbreak of a new type of coronavirus, in accordance with the instruction from the General Administration of Sport 'On Suspending All Sports Competitions Until April,' the organizing committee has decided to temporarily cancel a car rally in Changbaishan, scheduled for February 12-14," the sports federation said.

The General Administration of Sport has not yet published a relevant statement on its website.

In late December, Chinese authorities reported an outbreak of pneumonia of unknown etiology in Wuhan, the central province of Hubei. Later, Chinese experts tentatively determined that the new type of pneumonia had been caused by a novel coronavirus

As of now, the number of confirmed cases of a new form of coronavirus in China has risen to 571. Confirmed cases of new coronavirus have also been recorded in the United States, Japan, South Korea and Thailand.

Starting Thursday, Wuhan authorities suspended the work of transport and imposed a temporary ban on local residents to leave the city with a view to preventing the spread of the virus

Wuhan, which was due to host the Asia/Oceania qualifier, has indefinitely postponed the tournament.
