Brazil Hacking Charges Against US Reporter Greenwald Unjustified - Rights Group

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd January, 2020) The Brazilian government's hacking charges against US investigative reporter Glenn Greenwald amount to an unjust reprisal because the journalist exposed corruption, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) said in a press release.

"The accusations are unjustified and constitute a disproportionate reprisal for The Intercept Brazil's expose - based on the details of online chats - of collusion between the judge and prosecutors in a huge anti-corruption investigation," RSF said on Wednesday.

RSF, the release said, condemns yesterday's decision by Brazilian Federal prosecutors to charge Greenwald with assisting six alleged hackers.

In July 2019, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said Greenwald could be jailed for his activities.

Greenwald is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who helped publish documents leaked by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden that exposed the US government's mass surveillance program.
