MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd January, 2020) A Turkish authority in charge of regulating nonprofits has appointed caretaker managers to run the Foundation for Sciences and Arts (BISAV), a charity co-founded by the president's former ally and ex-prime minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, according to the foundation's statement, seen by a popular Turkish daily, Sozcu.

The nonprofit has already lost its Istanbul Sehir University to the government, which handed it over to state-run Marmara University.

Davutoglu ran afoul of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as the latter pushed for reforms that would grant him sweeping new powers. He stepped down as the leader of the ruling AKP party and the prime minister in 2016.

Davutoglu stayed on in politics as a lawmaker with the governing party until December of last year when he announced the creation of a splinter party to promote Turkey's return to a parliamentary democracy.
