Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday that the Singaporean model of leadership with the institution of a mentor was not suitable for Russia because it would undermine the institution of the president
SOCHI (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd January, 2020) Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday that the Singaporean model of leadership with the institution of a mentor was not suitable for Russia because it would undermine the institution of the president.
Lee Kuan Yew resigned as Singapore's leader but remained a mentor and largely determined Singapore's domestic and foreign policy.
"Our country should be a strong presidential republic... What you propose will undermine the institution of the president. I think that for a country like Russia this is not applicable," Putin said at a meeting with students when asked about Russia's future after 2024 and the possibility of establishing the institution of a mentor in the country.
He said that if a supra-presidential institution appeared in Russia, the country would have dual power, which was unacceptable.
