Pakistan Praying for Mideast Conflict Not to Escalate - Prime Minister

Pakistan is praying for the conflict in the Middle East not to escalate, Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Wednesday, adding that the country is making effort to promote peace through dialogue with the parties involved

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd January, 2020) Pakistan is praying for the conflict in the middle East not to escalate, Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Wednesday, adding that the country is making effort to promote peace through dialogue with the parties involved.

He said that a conflict between Iran and the United States was the "worst thing" that could ever happen, since it would be a "disaster" for the whole world, as oil prices would increase dramatically,

"We are already trying to barely manage our budgets ... Sadly, everything would be offset. It will cause poverty in the world ... We, in Pakistan, pray that this does not happen, we have tried our best, we have already talked to Saudi Arabia, Iran, the United States. I spoke to [US] President [Donald] Trump yesterday, and I told him that this would be a disaster for us, if this war starts," Khan said in his address at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

However, Trump "did not say anything," according to the Pakistani prime minister.

"But I think he understood. Because in my opinion this would be insanity," Khan added.

Tensions between Iran and the US escalated dramatically in January after Iran's top military commander Qasem Soleimani was killed in a US strike, and Tehran retaliated with firing missiles at facilities in Iraq housing US personnel.
